Army Gen visits Kokrajhar, meets CM

Kokrajhar (Assam), Oct16; The chief of army staff, Gen NC Vij along with Lt Gen JS Varma, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Anup Jamwal, GOC 4 Corps, Maj Gen Yadava, GOC 21 Mountain Division today visited Kokrajhar to take stock of the over all situation in lower Assam.

They were received by Brig SH Mahajan, Commander 11 Mountain Brigade at Titaguri High School helipad near here.

Vij visited Guwahati, Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Tamulpur in lower Assam. The visit was aimed at assessing the latest situation with regards to militancy in lower Assam. The Chief was briefed by senior Army Commanders during his visit and interacted with officers and men of 4 Corps based at Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Tamulpur. He appreciated the efforts put in by the Army to bring normalcy in the state of Assam. 

The state chief minister Tarun Gogoi who was on tour to Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) headquarter Kokrajhar met the army officials and discussed on the latest development and over all situation in the state. The BTC authority led by deputy chief Chandan Brahma also met the Army General.

Sources in the army said the Army Gen also briefed on the security problem. Sources in the police said the operation against the militants has been restrained since yesterday evening however army sources denied the report saying ‘we haven’t received no such order.

Later in the evening, the Chief called on Lt Gen (Retd) Ajay Singh, the governor of Assam at the Rajbhavan.
