Congress wins Manipur by-polls
NET News Network Imphal, Oct 16: The Indian National Congress wins the
Konthoujam Kendra Assembly seat edging its nearest rival candidate by 1963
votes in the result declared today. The wins by the INC candidate Dr. S. Budhichandra Singh also
gave a morale booster to the SPF government as it had defeated an
opposition DPA allaince common candidate K.Ranbir of the MPP. In the result declared today Dr. Sapam Budhichandra got 6402
while K.Ranbir garnered 4439 and the third position by independent
candidate S.Ibobi with 3744. The counting which was supposed to begin at 8 am this morning
was delayed by 45 minutes with the loss of one keys, locking EVM's at the
stronghold of the DC complex, Imphal West. The keys of the stronghold
which were in two numbers was in the possession of security and the other
with the returning officer. Unfortunately the RO keys could not be located
and was missing however with the arrival of the Y.Surchandra, DC,Imphal
West things could be brought under control and counting begin at 8.45 am. Later in a brief chat,
the newly elect Konthoujam MLA, S. Budhichandra said his top priority will
be for development of road conditions in his constituency and do his level
best to lend his support to people of Manipur. Dr.Budhichandra was also given a reception at the MPCC office
with Chief Minister O.Ibobi along with his ministers/MLA's congratulated
him on his success today.
