Apang sworn in as 7th Chief Minister of Arunachal

Itanagar, Oct 16: Gifted with rare political acumen, Gegong Apang was sworn in as 7th Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh here today in presence of newly elected MLAs, dignitaries and top ranking officials in simple function held at Raj Bhawan.

State Governor, Vinod Chandra Pandey administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Apang. The swearing in ceremony was organized amidst the boycott of BJP led opposition MLAs, who decided to boycott the function on the ground of Apang being betrayed the people of Arunachal Pradesh as well as the ‘BJP’ at the eleventh hour by joining the congress party. 

Immediately after the swearing in ceremony function, Chief Minister, Apang said the composition of new ministry would be discussed at New Delhi, where PCC Chiefs meeting has been convened with the UPA Chairman and AICC, President, Sonia Gandhi on October 18 last. “The matter is being compounded by the fact that down scaling of the ministry to only 12, including CM, there can no longer be jumbo ministries as in the past”, Apang told northeasttribune.com. 

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor, V Pande appointed Congress MLA, Tadik Chije as the pro-tem speaker of the state assembly, who also took oath of office and secrecy here this after noon. 

It is worth mentioning that the Congress party has bagged simple majority of 34 seats out 60 seats, and it main opposition BJP party open its account in the assembly with 9 seats while independents got 13 seats, Arunachal congress (AC) 1 one and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) managed to secured 2 seats respectively in the 60 seats legislative assembly house in the October 7 last election held in the state.
