AASU, AJYCP condemns attack on scribes NET News Network Guwahati, Oct 18: Even after 24 hours, police is yet to trace
any clue regarding the Sunday’s unfortunate incident, where unknown
miscreants allegedly attacked four employees of an Assamese daily Natun
Dainik. The victims were identified as Pranjit Deka, Hiren Deka,
Kulapradip Bhagawati and Bijay Sarma. The four, two reporters and two other employees of the
organisation received severe injuries when they were allegedly attacked by
a group led by Congress Councilor Mintu Ghosh (Ward No 48) on Sunday
evening without provocation. Talking to northeasttribune.com DSP Hemanta Das said the
investigation was on. He however, added that police had picked up some
persons for their alleged involvement in the incident. Pranjit Deka who received severe eye injury was operated upon
at the GMCH here on Monday. Meanwhile, several students’ organizations of the state
including AASU have condemned the incident. AASU General Secretary Amiya
Kumar Bhuyan while condemning the incident demanded immediate arrest of
the culprits. He also demanded proper inquiry into it. AJYCP General Secretary Dilip Sankar Saikia also echoed the same and criticized Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government for failing to provide smooth governance to the State.
